CINQ ÉPICES ALBERTA Cooking Workshops

Culinary Art, Food, and Nutrition Training Program (PACAN) “CULINARY SKILLS TO CULTIVATE… FOR LIFE!”

As part of its programming, the ACFA régionale de Calgary organizes promotion and prevention workshops in collaboration with CelineCestBon. This public health initiative (preventive food and nutrition component) was created thanks to a partnership with the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes (SAIC) of the Government of Quebec. Alberta is the first Canadian province to welcome this Quebec program, which the ACFA regional office has proudly hosted since 2015.

Program Objectives and Goals

The program aims to offer children:

-Positive culinary and food experiences.

-A controlled academic environment in the company of their friends.

-The sharing of cultures and flavors from the five continents.

-An organized pedagogical framework.

-An appreciation of the social and environmental aspects of food.

The goal is to encourage children to discover new foods so they can make responsible and wise dietary choices. The program also teaches them about food from different cultures and from safe, eco-responsible agricultural techniques, while seeking to enhance the academic knowledge of each grade level.

Workshop Procedures and Features

Target Audience: Children aged 2 to 12. The presence of a parent or grandparent is accepted (optional).

Format: One hour of fun in the form of “turnkey” workshops.

Approach: An educational, inspiring, and innovative kitchen activity. Learning takes place through the development of taste and the awakening of the five senses during tasting. All steps are carried out in a spirit of respect and politeness for everyone’s tastes.

Inclusions: The workshop includes the preparation and tasting of what has been cooked together.

At Home: A copy of the family recipe is given after each workshop. This equips and encourages the child to replicate the experience at home, thereby fostering the acquisition of skills that encourage the family to include a variety of nutritious foods and dishes in their daily routine.
